Prickly pear (Opuntia) a cactus plant, introduced to Kenya and originally from Mexico,
is now an invasive species in Northern Kenya. Laikipia Permaculture Centre (LPC)
in partnership with PRI Kenya is working with the Samburu women of Twala and Naatum
Cultural Women’s Groups using sustainable practices to harvest the spiny, but nutritious
purple/red fruits to produce this delicious jelly.
This is our Kenyan equivalent to cranberry sauce and better. Try it its delicious!
